Coronavirus death toll crosses 239,400 globally with nearly 3.4 mln infected

KATHMANDU: With Coronavirus wreaking havoc across the world, the death toll from the novel virus has climbed to 239, 408 after 5, 584 died in the last 24 hours as of Saturday morning.

According to the latest figures collated by Worldometer, with 94, 152 new cases, the number of infection cases has reached 3,398,073 as of Saturday morning.

Currently, 2,079, 093 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the world, of which 51, 335 are critical.

Meanwhile, 1,079,572 have recovered after treatment.

America, the worst-hit in terms of both deaths and infection cases, has reported 1,882 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the total to 65, 738 as of Saturday morning.

According to the latest figures collated by Worldometer, with 35,828 new cases, the number of infection cases has surged to 1,130,851.

Currently, 903, 562 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across America, of which 16,481 are critical.  Meanwhile, 161, 551 have recovered after treatment.

New York is the worst-hit with 24, 069 deaths followed by New Jersey and Michigan with 7,538 and 3, 866 deaths, respectively.

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had declared Coronavirus a Public Health Emergency on January 31 in the US.

Italy, the second worst-hit country in terms of deaths, has 281 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the total to 28, 236 as of Saturday morning.

The number of infection cases in the country has reached 207, 428 after 1,965 new cases were reported, the third highest in terms of infection cases, after Spain and America, according to Worldometer.

Currently, 100,943 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 1,578 are critical. Meanwhile, 78,249 have recovered after treatment.

Spain has the second highest number of infection cases with 242,988 after the United States of America (USA).

The country reported 3, 648 infection cases, 281 deaths in the last 24 hours. A total of 24, 824 have died due to the novel virus as of Saturday morning.

Currently, 75, 714 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 2,500 are critical.

Meanwhile, 142, 450 have recovered after treatment.

The death toll in the United Kingdom (UK) has reached 27, 510 after 739 died in the last 24 hours as of Saturday morning.

According to Worldometer,  with 6, 210 new cases,  the number of infection cases has surged to 177, 454.

Currently, 149, 600 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 1, 559 are critical.

France has reported 218 deaths in the last 24 hours taking to death toll to 24, 594 deaths as of Saturday morning.

According to reports, the number of infection cases has surged to 167, 346 after 168 new cases were reported.

Currently, 92, 540 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 3, 878 are critical. Meanwhile, 50, 212 have returned home after recovery.

India has reported 1, 223 deaths after 69 died in the last 24 hours as of Saturday morning. With 2,394 new cases, the number of infection cases has reached 37, 257.

Currently, 26, 027 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country while 10, 007 have returned home after recovery. The India government has performed tests on 902,654 people for Coronavirus so far.

Broke out in Wuhan City of China last December, the deadly virus has spread to 210 countries including two international conveyances across the world, killing 239,408 and infecting 3,398,073 people as of Saturday morning.
